Valley Public Radio's Joe Moore and Kerry Klein at the Golden Mike Awards, January 27, 2018

Valley Public Radio was awarded four prestigious "Golden Mike Awards" at an awards ceremony in Los Angeles, Saturday January 27. Hosted by the Radio Television News Association of Southern California, the event paid tribute to excellence in broadcast journalism. The station's reporters including Kerry Klein, Ezra David Romero and Jeffrey Hess won honors in categories including best news reporting, best investigative reporting, best hard news series reporting and best business and consumer reporting.

Of special note – the award for best hard news series reporting for “Contaminated” our series of coverage of the valley's drinking water crisis was in a category with just one division, meaning Valley Public Radio was not just competing against stations of similar size, but against also against the largest stations in Southern California, and won.

Valley Public Radio's Director of Program Content Joe Moore said the honors showcase the quality local  journalism that listeners have come to expect from the station. "This year's honors are especially significant in several respects. First, I think the categories we won in are a testament to the quality work our newsroom is producing in important areas. Second, these honors come just days after the death of our longtime general manager Mariam Stepanian, and I know how proud she was of our news team and the work they do. We honor her memory with these awards, but more importantly, by continuing to go out into the field to tell the stories of our community in Central California," said Moore.
