This week on Valley Edition we speak with Fresno State Political Science Professor Jeff Cummins about California politics and his new book "Boom and Bust: The Politics of the California Budget."

Also on the program Valley Edition Host Joe Moore remembers the lives of Jerry Tarkanian and Philip Levine.

Ending the show we talk about Allensworth, the African American community in southeastern Tulare County that was established in 1908. Today, it is known as Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park. George Finley, the former principal of Allensworth School, chats with Moore about the town.  Porterville College’s Cultural Historical Awareness Program (C.H.A.P.) will host a presentation on the town Feb. 18 with a special Black History Month presentation of “Allensworth: History and Personal Recollections” from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the PC Theater.

Joe Moore is the President and General Manager of KVPR / Valley Public Radio. He has led the station through major programming changes, the launch of KVPR Classical and the COVID-19 pandemic. Under his leadership the station was named California Non-Profit of the Year by Senator Melissa Hurtado (2019), and won a National Edward R. Murrow Award for investigative reporting (2022).
