Interview: Fresno Area Schools Among Top 50 Economically Segregated In US

Aug 30, 2016

Schools in the Fresno area recently ranked among the top 50 in the nation when it comes to economic segregation. That’s according to a new report from the national group EdBuild, a school reform organization that advocates changing the way schools are funded, and supports redrawing school district boundary lines.

The report examines three local districts, Clovis Unified which serves a relatively affluent population in Clovis and North Fresno; Fresno Unified, which serves older parts of Fresno where poverty is high; and Golden Valley Unified in rural Madera County, where poverty is low.

Fresno Bee education reporter Mackenzie Mays has been covering the story and joined us on Valley Edition to talk about wha this means for local schools and how educations leaders are responding.
