Doug Vagim Wants To Bring "Watchdog" Approach To City Hall

Howard Watkins - used with permission
Fresno mayoral candidate Doug Vagim

Over 50 years after he helped his led a grassroots effort to save the old Fresno County Courthouse from the wrecking ball Doug Vagim remains a self-described government watchdog. The former Fresno County Supervisor now wants to become the City of Fresno's next mayor.

It's a race he ran for unsuccessfully back in 2008. But Vagim hasn't been off the scene since then. Instead he has been more active than ever, leading a push two years ago to take the city's controversial water rate increases to voters. While Measure W never made it to the ballot box, Vagim says his efforts led to substantial savings for ratepayers. Now Vagim says he's the candidate best suited to lead California's fifth largest city. He recently joined us on Valley Edition to talk about his vision for Fresno.
