It’s widely expected Governor Jerry Brown will win reelection in November. But there’s still a fierce battle to be the Republican who challenges him. From Sacramento, Katie Orr takes a look at the two top contenders.

It’s lobbying season in Sacramento. Several times a week interests groups rally around the Capitol. The groups, often large and clad in brightly colored t-shirts, then head inside and converge on lawmakers’ offices in hopes of gaining support, and possibly money, for their cause.

Opponents Remains As Common Core Nears Implementation

California schools are adjusting curriculum and students are already taking tests based on new Common Core standards. But, as Katie Orr reports from Sacramento, opposition to the standards continues, as demonstrated by a small rally at the Capitol Wednesday.

A small group of families and parents gathered under the trees near the Capitol to express their concern about Common Core standards. The bi-partisan group said the Common Core assessment often leaves students confused and upset.

A tea party California Assemblyman has become the first Republican to officially enter the 2014 governor’s race.  Democratic incumbent Jerry Brown is widely considered the frontrunner, assuming he decides to run for a record fourth term.  But as Ben Adler reports from Sacramento, the race to face Brown in California’s new “top two” primary system is wide open.

Brown Raises $10 Million for Governor's Race; GOP Nowhere Close

California Governor Jerry Brown is leaving his potential Republican challengers in the dust when it comes to raising money for next year’s election.

Newly-released fundraising totals show the Democratic governor ended the first half of 2013 with more than 10 million dollars in the bank.  None of his challengers has raised even $50,000 dollars.

Republican political consultant Beth Miller says Brown’s fundraising advantage and 54 percent approval rating in a new poll show he’ll be hard to beat next fall.
