Fresno mayoral candidate and current Fresno County Supervisor Henry R. Perea supports the idea of city sanctioned encampments for Fresno’s homeless population.

Speaking on Valley Public Radio’s Valley Edition, Perea says city and county officials have been making progress in getting many homeless people into housing. But he adds the problem of people living on the streets has become more visible since the city closed down several illegal downtown encampments in 2013. Perea says legalized encampments should be an option.

It's a little over one year from election day and that means potential candidates for offices from city council to Congress are sizing up their opponents, donors and political prospects. Which Democrats will seek to challenge Republican Congressman David Valadao? Will Henry Perea leave the Fresno County Board of Supervisors to run for mayor against H. Spees and Lee Brand? And what about Henry T. Perea's campaign warchest?

Supervisor Henry Perea says that Fresno County’s decades-long contract with a local hospital to provide medical care to indigent patients could soon come to end.

“I think in the very near future, we just may be ending the contract with Community Hospitals, and going a different direction on the health care piece of it,” says Perea.
