Madera County's 'French Fire' Burns In Sierra National Forest

The French Fire grew to over 2,000 acres overnight as firefighters battled steep terrain in the area between the Rock Creek and Fish Creek campgrounds in the Sierra National Forest. Officials say the fire is not yet contained.

A total of 28 structures are threatened by the fire. Crews are attempting to use established control lines from last year's Aspen Fire to halt the French Fire's spread. Officials expect evening breezes to bring smoke from the fire into foothill communities and the valley floor.

Aspen Fire Grows to Over 16,000 Acres Near Huntington Lake

Update: 9:00 a.m. 8/1/13 - The Aspen Fire has now grown to 16,204 acres and is 40 percent contained.

Update: 9:00 a.m. 7/31/13 - Fire officials say the Aspen Fire has now consumed 14,332 acres and is 35 percent contained.

Update: 5:30 p.m. 7/30/13 - Officials with the Valley Air District have issued a "health cautionary statement" for residents in all valley counties due to smoke from the Aspen Fire.  From a press release issued by the district:
