The world of classical music comes to you each weekday with Valley Public Radio's Clearly Classical. Hear selections from FM89's music library ranging from favorites like Bach, Mozart and Beethoven to lesser known composers of the classical era. Hosted by George Mason David Aus and Jason Scott. You can hear Clearly Classical on FM89 from Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. till 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. till 4:00 p.m., except on Tuesdays, when Valley Edition airs from 9:00 a.m. till 10:00 a.m.

This week on Young Artists Spotlight we feature three different ensembles drawn from members of the Youth Orchestras of Fresno. Violinist Erin Scofield opens the program with a performance of Maurice Ravel's Sonata for Violin and Piano, accompanied by Hatem Nadim, piano. Following that, we hear a performance of Cambini's Wind Quintet No.2 in D minor by the Gigabyte Woodwind Quintet, featuring Andrew Young - horn, Henry Wolf - flute, Noelle Tutunjian- clarinet, Alana Stevenson - oboe, and Issac Ebury - bassoon.

On this edition of FM89's Young Artists Spotlight we feature performances by young composers with ties to Fresno Pacific University, Joseph del Giorgio and Luffy Bailey. Both del Giorgio and Bailey attended Fresno Pacific as undergraduates. Bailey is now working on a masters degree at Fresno State, and del Giorgio is doing the same at Cal State Fullerton. Joining del Giorgio for his performance on Young Artists Spotlight is fellow Cal State Fullerton vocalist, soprano Joslyn Sarshad.

Pianist Barry Douglas has been an star of the international classical music world since 1986, when he won the Gold Medal at the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in Moscow.

In addition to a busy touring schedule, Douglas also serves as artistic director of Camerata Ireland, a group which brings together musicians from Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland to celebrate Irish culture.

Bakersfield sisters Hannah Tran (14 years old)  and Meghan (12 years old) brought their Chinese zither artistry to the Bonner Performing Arts Studio on Wednesday February 13 for a live broadcast of FM89's Young Artists Spotlight. Hear about this traditional Chinese instrument and enjoy the sounds of the Tran sisters on this broadcast from our 2013 Y.A.S. season.
