On this week's show – why are whitewater rafters the latest group to feel the pain of California’s drought? We talk withLois Henryof the Bakersfield Californian and find out what it means for Kern County’s tourism industry.
We’ll also debut a new segment that brings you first person accounts of life in the Valley – we call it "My Valley, My Story." This week we’ll learn what it’s like to get sick in London. But we aren’t going to the UK, instead, we’ll visit the small farm worker town of London in Tulare County, and learn about the health challenges one woman and her mother face.
That and two special arts segments. First an in-studio appearance by valley musician Omar Nare who has a new show blending traditional mariachi with flamenco, and second we’ll talk to a guest from Cirque du Solei’s production Varekaiwhich is at the Save Mart Center this week.
Also on the program the city of Fresno says they are finally going to turn the Fulton mall back into a street. The question of what to do with the aging pedestrian walking area in the center of downtown Fresno has been a sore spot in the city for years. Valley Public Radio’s Jeffrey Hessreports city and business leaders say all signs point to the project breaking ground as soon as this fall.
