Valley Edition: February 16 - Fresno Food Commons; Clovis Unified Dress Code; Black History Month

Valley Public Radio

This week on Valley Edition Reporter Ali Budner takes a look into at Fresno Food Commons and reports on what kind of impact it's having on the region. We also hear about Clovis Unified dress code issues with Fresno Bee Reporter Mackenzie Mays and Bakersfield Californian Columnist Lois Henry. Henry also discusses Kern County topics including wastewater and oil. We also hear about how the pistachio industry is worried about Iranian nuts that could enter the market later this  year.

Ending the program we hear from Whitney Holladay about the Freedmen's Bureau Project. It's a campaign to digitize and archive millions of records generated 150 years ago by the government agency tasked with helping former slaves begin their lives as free citizens. The group is seeking the help of volunteers to help clear through a backlog of documents so they can reach a goal to complete the project by June 19th, historically known as Juneteenth Day. It's also the subject of a symposium taking place today at Fresno State.
