New Downtown Arts Complex Brings Momentum to 'M Street'

M Street Arts Complex

Over the past decade, downtown Fresno's arts scene has blossomed with new galleries and studios, not to mention live-work lofts and an area filled with public art that's been dubbed the mural district.

This month, there's a big new addition to that scene with something called the M Street Arts Complex, by developer Granville Homes. The facility held its grand opening this past weekend and this Thursday night it will host its first Art Hop, with an exhibit titled "Spectacle: A Closer Look at Fresno."
The 10,000 square foot facility will be filled with artwork by 13 local artists who are relatively unknown.

Artist Julia Woli Scott, one of the project curators of the exhibit joined us this week on Valley Edition to talk about the show and the new facility. We also talked about plans for the second phase of the project, in which Fresno State's graduate arts program plans to lease space in the building to house studios for student and gallery space.
