New Book Captures "Astrophotography" Along The John Muir Trail

John Muir Hut under the Milky Way

Imagine for a moment hiking the majestic John Muir trail in the High Sierra from Yosemite to Mount Whitney. Now imagine doing it in the middle of the night, with a load of sophisticated cameras, tripods and telescopes. That’s just what Scott Lange and Nick Foster did last summer, all in an effort to produce breathtaking long-exposure nighttime images of heavens and the landscape. 

Even more impressive, they hiked their nearly three week-long journey over 200 miles while the Rough Fire was burning away in Kings Canyon, causing smoke to fill the sky. Despite the fire, the two went through with their hike so they could complete their new crowd-funded book “The Range of Light: Night & Day on the John Muir Trail." Their trip has also spawned a postcard project as well. Together they call their astrophotography venutre DarkSkyPhotography.com.
