High-Speed Rail To Demolish Downtown Fresno Bridge Next Month

Construction on California’s high-speed rail project is set to give local drivers some headaches. Starting next month work will begin on the demolition of the Tuolumne Street bridge in downtown Fresno.

The bridge, which links Highway 99 with the central business district will eventually be replaced by a new higher bridge that will span both the union pacific and high speed rail tracks, and will accommodate 2-way traffic.

The existing one-way streets in the area will also be reconfigured. Tuolumne Street between "F" Street and Broadway will be closed for about 10-12 months.

Work on the project is set to begin January 4th, 2016.

Note: an earlier version of this article reported that Tuolumne Street would be closed between "F" Street and Broadway. The California High-Speed Rail Authority now says that it released incorrect closure information, and that the street will only be closed from "F' Street to Broadway.
