For the last 15 years the Yosemite Area Transportation Systemor YARTS has brought hikers, rock climbers and other nature seekers from Merced to Yosemite National Park. Beginning Memorial Day weekend this service will expand to include four buses a day from Fresno to Yosemite.

Dick Whittington is the YARTS Transit Manager with the Merced County Association of Governments.

WHITTINGTON: “In my mind this service is way overdue. You have the largest city in the Valley with the largest international airport in the Valley. It just makes sense.”

The fare from the Fresno Yosemite International Airport to the park and back will be $30 and includes the entrance fee. The buses are made possible through a partnership between YARTS and the Fresno Council of Governments.

WHITTINGTON: “There are these connectivity’s beginning to happen. People can fly into Fresno, they can go up to the mountain, they can make their hike, they’ll come out of the mountain, they can take them back to Fresno and they can fly home again.

A similar bus system also begins Memorial Day from Fresno to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks for $15 round trip.
