Students at a Fresno area high school were sent home earlier today after a bomb threat and rumors on social media prompted safety concerns. FM89’s Diana Aguilera reports.
Two teens were arrested today after the principal at Bullard High School received a bomb threat via email, prompting an early release of students.
The suspects, who are 18 and 17 years of age, are also believed to be responsible for recent graffiti vandalism on campus, and at two nearby churches. Some of the messages sprayed on walls included “the oppressed will rise” and a black skull.
Fresno police Chief Jerry Dyer says they are looking for a third suspect.
Superintendent Michael Hansen says students were released at noon from school. Chief Dyer says although the email threat was not credible, it was concerning.
Besides Thursday’s bomb threat, Dyer says other individuals fueled rumors of a mass shooting that same day on campus through social media. He says two people sent a tweet Wednesday night threatening to provoke a school shooting on Thursday. Dyer says they’re investigating those threats.
Officers served a search warrant in connection with the bomb threat and arrested the two suspects who are brothers. Chief Dyer says the younger brother was a student at that school at some point. During the search, police said several weapons were found.
Classes will resume on Friday.
